With the 2017 Festival season behind us, here are a few things we expect to see at the festivals this year:

VIP will continue to grow, with more of the overall ticket mix being sold to VIP Patrons.

EDM only festivals will continue to grow. However, more emerging names will appear, rather than the big names who command major concert fees.

Everyone will be of course be engaged in enhanced security.  The use of drones to oversee security will emerge  even more this year.

Food and beverage will continue to move from the traditional concession stand model, to providing local chefs with space to provide the  VIP food experience  to the General ADmission crowd.

More cashless events will emerge.  The mobile wallet will grow, though the ability to accept payments from all systems out there will still not be in place.  Apple Pay and Square will continue to be the biggest players.

Vancouver Washington based GF Strategies has been selected to work with the State Of Washington to review the financial projections for a project that will upgrade the comfort for patrons at the Columbia Theater in Longview, Washington.

GF Strategies, in cooperation with ED HOvee and Associates will review the projected costs for a new chiller for the building and provide findings on the ability of the local PFD to pay for the proposed financing vehicle to pay for the new system.

“We are pleased to be asked to work on this project” said Greg Flakus.” We have done prior work in Longview/Kelso for the local fairgrounds and also on a master plan for the Cowlitz County Events Center.”

The final project will be completed by the end of May.

GF STRATEGIES CELEBRATES 24YEARS VANCOUVER, Wash. – Since the first days at the 1993 Oregon State Fair, GF Strategies has been a leader and innovator, in revenue increase strategies and consultation throughout the stadiums, convention centers, arenas and fair and festival business. January marks the 24th year for GF Strategies, a company started in Oregon and Washington, branching out throughout the United States and serving events in California, Idaho, Texas, Oklahoma and Virginia. This year the firm will work with six fairs, as well as nine major music festivals from Seattle,to San Francisco to Las Vegas. In addition the company works with venues that host major pro and college sports teams to advise on how to increase patron spending. GF Strategies’ first two venues, the Oregon State Fair in Salem and the Deschutes Fair and Rodeo (Redmond, Oregon) proved Mr. Flakus’ system was invaluable. At the Oregon State Fair, food sales rose from $1.8 to $2.1 million in three years. With more than 53 major events using its analytics and tracking system, GFS has covered North America and some of the largest events in the United States for the past 23 years,including seven of the top ten attendance fairs in North America. Last year alone, GFS was able to work with all of its clients to keep food sales numbers growing, even with pricing at the same levels at many of the Fairs that are a part of company’s Fairs division. This past year the firm worked with some of the major festivals in the nation including Outside Lands in San Francisco, Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas, Bumbershoot in Seattle and an event that the firm founded 20 years ago.the Portland Oregon Winter Ale Festival. GF Strategies to attend IAFE Fairs meetings. Leading a panel on Technology—the future of Fairs.

GF Strategies President Greg Flakus will be part of a panel at the International Association of Fairs meetings that begin November 28th in Las Vegas.

The convention brings together Fair management, staffs and boards from around the world. GF Strategies will be attending these meetings for the 20th year.
Since landing their first national focus event in 1997, the Houston Livestock Show, the company has worked with 52 Fairs around the nation, including six of the top ten in terms of attendance as well as Fairs as small as three days and attendance of ten thousand.
The panel will be speaking on technology and will feature panelists speaking about what is new in ticketing, cashless payments, using mobile hot spots at the Fair and an overview from a leading festival producer that works with MGM to produce its emerging festival mix in Las Vegas. The panel is set for 2 p.m on Wednesday December 2nd.

GF Strategies has become one of the leaders in advising major festivals on the fasting growing area for events.—large three day festivals with daily attendance of 20,000 to 75,000 attendees. The focus is on how to increase the per person spending at these large events by bringing on board high end chefs, newly emerging spirits brands, local recognized mixologists and exciting food and beverage villages.

“The festival business, as well as the stadium and arena segment is our growth area” said company President Greg Flakus. “We are planning to keep our regional team working with our existing Fairs” said Flakus.
The GF Strategies team is on site at Fairs and manages all of the cash reporting from all food and beverage sales at events where the event earns a percentage of all sales.
